CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Showers and thunderstorms are scattered over South Texas this afternoon, and with increasing instability will become widespread Thursday and Friday. Only isolated showers are expected over the weekend, but tropical moisture will bring heavy rainfall potential the first half of next week.

As the first disturbance moves away over the weekend, a tropical low gaining momentum in the western Gulf of Mexico will begin to edge toward the Coastal Bend. That system may result in multiple inches of rain Monday through Wednesday, if long range models are correct.

Highs will range from the middle 80s to the lower 90s, with lows in the lower to middle 70s.
