CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Winter is alive and well in South Texas with temperatures starting in the teens and 20s with wind chill values in the single digits and low teens.

There is also plenty of ice on the roads making for a slippery and icy commute.

Residents are urged to keep off the roads unless absolutely necessary. If you must drive, please give yourself plenty of time to arrive to your destinations safely.

Winter Storm Warnings and Freeze Warnings are in place until noon today. Wind Chill Warnings are in place until Noon Tuesday. These are in place for the entire Coastal Bend.

Keep a safe distance from the cars in front of you, a sudden brake or acceleration could easily send your vehicle skidding. If this happens, take your foot off the brake and pedal, until you have control of the vehicle again and turn the steering wheel into the direction you are going. Please be safe everyone, these are dangerous icy conditions.

This morning, a lot of precipitation that brought the sleet, freezing rain and wintry mix will start to move out and lead to some afternoon sunshine; however, the temperatures are forecast to remain at or below freezing much of the day and keep the ice that is on the grounds.

Here in Corpus Christi, we'll look for a high near 30 with wind chills in the teens. Winds will be howling out of the north-northwest around 15-25 mph. Gale Warnings and Small Craft Advisories are all posted, boaters and mariners are urged to use caution.

Tonight will still be cold and icy. Lows will fall back into the teens and 20s with wind chill values in the single digits. The precipitation will be out of the area, but whatever ice remains on surfaces will keep in place.

Another cold front will arrive on Wednesday, which will increase clouds, showers and drizzle late in the day on Tuesday and for much of Wednesday. This will lead to another round of freezing temperatures on Thursday and Friday mornings. Afternoon will be in the 40s and 50s.

We'll finally start to see milder temperatures for the weekend with highs back in the 70s, but winds will be brisk out of the southeast around 15-25 mph.

Stay warm and safe everyone and have a great day!
