We have sweltering days ahead as high pressure aloft strengthens, causing temperatures to heat up at the same time that Tropical Storm Cristobal heads north through the Gulf this weekend which puts us on the back-side of it's circulation, keeping dry, hot weather over south Texas. At this time, rain is expected to stay out over the Gulf but could come close to our beaches late Sunday depending on if the storm takes a turn to the northeast. Coastal flooding is likely this weekend and early next week due to Cristobal and there will be high rip current risk with rougher surf. Light north winds this weekend will come around to the west Monday causing the triple digit heat to shift toward the coast. Afternoon heat indices will reach 100-110 this weekend and as high as 115 by Tuesday. A weak cold front is forecast to move through next Wednesday, bringing temperatures down slightly late next week but at this time, no rain is expected.
