CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While powerful Hurricane Laura bears down on the Golden Triangle, its large size is allowing spiral bands to bring isolated showers to the Coastal Bend this afternoon through Thursday.

More showers and thunderstorms are expected with a tropical wave this weekend, but rainfall totals will be modest.

Hurricane Laura continues to intensify as it approaches the TX-LA coastline, with the sustained wind in excess of 140 mph. It's size will mean outer rain bands can be expected in the Coastal Bend tonight and Thursday.

Extreme heat and humidity accompany this scenario through Saturday, with heat indices of 106 to 114 degrees.

After Thursday, the next chance for rain will be late Saturday through Sunday, when another tropical wave impacts the region.

Monday through Wednesday will be generally fair. Highs will remain in the 90s and lows from the upper 70s to lower 80s.
