CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Temperatures cooled off significantly this morning, courtesy of yesterday's evening cold front, with temperatures back down in the 40s for many locations after officially reaching 80 degrees at Corpus Christi International Airport yesterday afternoon.
The front will put cool Canadian high pressure in place for the today and tomorrow and promote lots of sunshine before the weather pattern shifts and clouds, wind and even some rainfall returns late in the weekend and into next week.
Today will be sunshine filled and much cooler, especially compared to Thursday, with an afternoon high of 66. Winds will be a bit on the breezy side for the first part of the day, but they'll begin to relax later this afternoon and evening. Small Craft Advisories are posted for the nearshore waters until 9 a.m.
Tonight will be clear and cold with lighter winds, allowing many locations, aside from coastal communities, to reach at or below freezing tomorrow morning. Here in Corpus Christi, we'll go for an overnight low of 31. Protect sensitive vegetation and be sure your outdoor pets have shelter to stay warm.
Saturday will be fantastic with near seasonal average highs in the upper 60s with another round of sunny skies and light winds.
Sunday, we'll cloud up and could see one or two stray showers as a front stalls and dissipates to our north. Still, highs will on the seasonal side in the upper 60s.
Monday on MLK Day, we'll see a break in clouds. But it will still be on the partly to mostly cloudy side and the wind and temperatures will increase. Winds will be gusting out of the south-southeast around 15-20 mph with highs will shoot into the lower 70s.
An upper-level low will move into the desert Southwest and promote more wind on Tuesday and Wednesday, but also increase moisture in the area and promote cloudy skies and showers in the area late Tuesday and into Wednesday.
Heaviest rainfall amounts will still be in far north Texas, but we could see a few tenths of an inch under the more moderate rainfall.
