ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” will look a little different next season. Tom Bergeron, who had hosted the show since its 2005 debut, is out and so is longtime co-host Erin Andrews. The new face of the long-running dance competition show will be supermodel Tyra Banks, who will also serve as executive producer. Banks will be the first host in the show’s history to do it solo, as well as being the first Black woman to do the job.

“I like breaking doors down, so that we don’t have any more firsts,” Banks said during an appearance on “Good Morning America” on July 15. “But it’s nice to be first, so that you can open that door and let so many other people come in after you — so I’m excited.”

In addition to working the runway and appearing on the cover of countless magazines, Banks has been no stranger to hosting TV shows. She executive produced and hosted the first 22 seasons of The CW’s hit competition show “American’s Next Top Model” and had her own daytime talk show, “The Tyra Banks Show,” which aired for five seasons. She also had brief stints as host of the syndicated talk show “FABLife” and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”

Banks promises that her groundbreaking role on “Dancing with the Stars” will bring exciting changes to the show while still maintaining elements that fans have come to know and love over its 28 seasons.

“We’re doing all this crazy stuff, taking it to the next level but still keeping the stuff that we know America loves,” she explained on “Good Morning America.” “But get ready because it’s going to be different.”

Bergeron had hosted the show with a rotating roster of co-hosts since its inception, including Andrews since 2014. On Twitter, he made a cheeky joke in response to the news that Banks would replace him:

“I guess I won’t be getting back my monogrammed towels,” he quipped, referring to the fact that he and Banks share the same initials.

Congratulations to Banks on her new gig, and we can’t wait to see what she does with the show!
