Starbucks Is Releasing A Brand-New Refresher In A Unique Flavor

Starbucks just added a new Refreshers beverage flavor to its menu, and it looks like the perfect way to toast to the end of summer.

Kiwi Starfruit Refreshers Beverage is made with kiwi juice, star fruit juice and real pieces of kiwi for a fruit-forward Refreshers flavor that is pure tropical perfection.

Hand-shaken and then poured over ice, this tasty concoction clocks in at less than 100 calories for a grande version, so it’s a light, fresh way to satisfy your sweet tooth.

As Starbucks wrote on Twitter, this fruity sipper is a great way to cool off:

You can also opt for the Kiwi Starfruit Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers Beverage, which is also made with real kiwi pieces, kiwi juice and star fruit juice — plus a splash of lemonade for an extra pop of tangy flavor.

Looking for something a little creamier? Try the Star Drink. Made with kiwi juice, star fruit juice and coconut milk, this iced drink will make you feel like you’re on a tropical vacation even as you’re enduring your seventh month of pandemic-induced shutdown.

The Starbucks Twitter account aptly refers to this drink as “pure summer refreshment.”

If you’re wondering what the heck star fruit is, you’re not alone. This fruit isn’t commonly known in the U.S., though it’s very popular in other parts of the world, particularly in Asia.

Star fruit, also known as carambola, is believed to have originated in Sri Lanka and the Maluku Islands in Indonesia. The sweet-and-sour star-shaped fruit is now grown in Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, Hawaii and the Caribbean.

Star fruit is nutrient-dense, containing high amounts of fiber, zinc, magnesium, vitamins A, B and C, and lots of antioxidants. (One word of warning: Star fruit can be toxic for people with kidney disease.)

If you want to avoid star fruit, try some of the other Refreshers flavors at Starbucks, like Mango Dragonfruit, Strawberry Acai or Very Berry Hibiscus. You can add lemonade to any of these options if you prefer, or try the Refreshers-based Pink Drink and Violet Drink, which are almost too pretty to drink.
