In-person classes resumed Monday for Alice ISD following a 10-day closure over COVID-19 concerns.
The school district made the decision to return to online-only classes Oct. 21 after as many as 100 students attended a house party the previous weekend where they were possibly exposed to the novel coronavirus.
District leaders chose Nov. 2 as the date on which students could return to campuses for classes. The closure could have been extended if coronavirus test results indicated it should be.
The district's spokesperson is hopeful future closures won't be necessary.
“I think the community working together along with our students and our parents making sure everybody follows the protocol (will prevent future closures)," AISD Public Information Officer Ofelia Hunter said. "I know we’ll get through this.”
Last week, Alice High School had to forfeit its football game against Calallen after several students tested positive for COVID-19.
The school district is now giving the option for ticket purchasers to receive a full refund for the canceled game, or they can use the ticket for admission into this week’s game against Tuloso-Midway.
If fans decide they want a refund, they can receive it through Wednesday during ticket sales as long as they have an orange ticket with “Game 4” written on it.
Ticket sales for the general public will be held Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon.
There will be no refunds given after Wednesday.
