You’ve decided you’re ready to find new roads by purchasing a new car or truck, but there are so many questions you need answered before you get started on your car buying journey. Should you be looking at buying a new or certified pre-owned vehicle? The answer to that question depends on several variables, including your budget, how long you intend to keep the vehicle, what type of warranty you want and whether or not you must have the latest technology.

The car buying experience can be easy, fun and cost-beneficial when purchasing from the right dealership.

The Warranty – It’s nice to know that you won’t have to pay for any repairs on your car or truck for a while. For example, on its 2018 models, Chevrolet offers a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty on the power train; 3 years/36,000 miles bumper to bumper; 5 years/60,000 miles of 24-hour Roadside Assistance and courtesy transportation; and six years/100,000 miles for corrosion.

The Technology – With each new model year, car and truck manufacturers offer new technology in the areas of performance, safety and comfort including: OnStar Equipment (one month free), Communication Equipment, Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control. Rear vision camera is now standard on every Silverado. Additionally innovation allows fuel efficiency to usually improve year over year as well.

It’s Easier – If you buy a new car or truck, you won’t have to determine if the vehicle is in good condition. After all, it’s brand-new. It should be in top-notch shape, especially if you buy it from a dealer with a sterling reputation, such as Aztec Chevrolet.

Your Confidence – There’s nothing like that new-car smell, right? There’s also a pretty good chance that driving a new car will provide a big boost for your confidence.

However, some people would prefer to drive a good-quality pre-owned vehicle. Here’s why.

Financial Considerations – A pre-owned vehicle can cost less than a new one, which means buyers will be able to afford more car for their money. And you’ll probably save money on sales tax and insurance premiums, too.

The Vehicle’s History – With a pre-owned car or truck, most of the “kinks” will be worked out of the vehicle, according to Miranda Bohac, business development center manager at Aztec Chevrolet Buick GMC in Beeville.

“You can review the history of the vehicle and, if it’s been traded in by one of our loyal customers, we will be able to give you a personal history of the vehicle,” Bohac says.

Reliability – Pre-owned cars and trucks are much more dependable than they’ve ever been. It’s not unusual for a vehicle to roll up 100,000 miles or more before major repairs are necessary. And, as Bohac points out, you can always purchase an extended warranty for your used car, truck, or SUV. There is also the option of purchasing a certified pre-owned vehicle. Furthermore, our used vehicle manager, Charlie Porter, is an on-site expert.

The bottom line is that whether to buy new or used is a question you must answer for yourself – as long as you do business with a dealership you trust.
