Even if you’re not into makeup or beauty tips, you’ve probably still heard the word “collagen.” In basic terms, collagen is a naturally occurring protein in your body that provides support for your tissues and muscles and gives your skin elasticity — meaning that the more you have, the “younger” your skin will look.

According to Healthline, you can think of it as the “glue” that holds everything together. There are many different types of collagen and the one that’s most prevalent in your body provides structure for your skin as well as your bones, tendons and teeth.

Like many things in our bodies, however, collagen levels drop as we age, which can lead to weakened cartilage and wrinkled skin. Luckily, there are ways to boost your collagen levels — particularly by ingesting drinks that include collagen (often sourced from animals). Studies have found collagen products do work to improve skin elasticity and collagen levels, however experts agree more, larger studies are needed to prove efficacy.

One such product that’s new to the market is SkinTē, a refreshing sparkling tea that delivers 3,000 millgrams of collagen per can.

SkinTē comes in three flavors — Green Tea Grapefruit, White Tea Ginger and Hibiscus Vanilla — and each is said to benefit your skin, hair, nails, joints and mood. While they are free of gluten, artificial sweeteners, dairy, soy and dyes, they are not vegetarian, as the collagen is sourced from cattle.

The teas are for sale now through SkinTē’s website, Goop.com, Amazon and in some stores nationwide. A three-pack on Amazon costs $18, or about $6 per can.

If you’re not a fan of tea or sparkling drinks, there are also collagen waters, powders like as this popular Live Well collagen peptides product and gummies on the market. Again, many of these are not vegetarian, so if you do not eat meat or any animal products, you’ll want to look at other natural sources.

Eating tomatoes, for example, can increase collagen and improve fine lines and wrinkles, and nutrients like vitamin C and vitamin E found in berries can also boost collagen levels. Beans, eggs and other dairy products can also help.
