One Corpus Christi Police Department officer has been killed and one is in stable condition at a local hospital after being involved in an accident on State Hwy. 358.

Their identities -- names or ranks -- are not being released at this time. It is only known that both officers are men.

CCPD Public Information Officer Lt. Michael Pena said three officers were conducting a traffic stop on the westbound Carroll Lane overpass at approximately 9:43 p.m. when they were hit by another vehicle.

Three officers in total were involved, driving individual vehicles.

Police have detained one man.

The scene and investigation remain active. Pena said lanes will be shut down as long as it takes to conduct the investigation. The area that has been closed includes westbound 358 between Weber Road and Kostoryz Road, and the intersection of Carroll Lane and SPID on the freeway's access road.
