Troubleshooters: Eclectix

CORPUS CHRISTI – Many former employees of the Eclectix Coffee Bar and Bakery on Staples have called the Troubleshooters saying they haven’t been paid.  We spoke with the owner today.

Last time we were at Eclectix, in January, they had earned a perfect score from health inspectors after opening just 2 months earlier.

But a lot has changed since then.
Before we go any further, we should tell you that we did meet with Susan Garcia, who owns the place with her husband.

She admitted they haven’t been able to pay their employees because they bit off a little more than they could chew to begin with.

In other words, too big of a place.  Not enough business experience.  Too many employees.

She did say that many of the former employees claiming they hadn’t been paid, now have.

She’s working with the Texas Workforce Commission to resolve those that have not been paid.
There are some managers still unpaid.  The total amount due she estimates is $7000.00.

But she’s trying to get each employee’s situation resolved as quickly as possible.

Garcia explained it this way.  Too many employees to start with.
So you try to make payroll, but at the same time you must pay the rent, or you get evicted.
Must pay sales taxes, or you get shut down.
Plus, try to keep the lights, water, and gas on.

Eclectix is open, but for how long.

Garcia says all the bad publicity on social media is having an impact on sales, thus making keeping the doors open, a struggle.
We should tell you that the former employees who said they wanted to tell us their stories, never showed up for the interview.
