SINTON, Texas — The Coastal Bend Food Bank provided free water to Sinton residents who didn't have any on Wednesday after the city's main water line had a system malfunction.
Residents were lining up at the Sinton Community Center at about 1:30 this afternoon with police directing the cars into lines.
Some residents said their concerns extended past the water shortage, but some had faith in the city of Sinton even though they had never experienced water loss.
Other residents said the pandemic puts an even bigger burden on the water loss because they’re quarantined and need to use the restroom or need to wash their hands after coming in contact with someone.
“We’re already pretty much stuck in our houses as it is so to be without water…I know the city of Sinton is working hard to restore it. Luckily we live in a small city where it’s not such a detriment,” said Katelyn Staton, a Sinton resident.
The Coastal Bend Food Bank said they’re able to provide for 936 families and give each family 4 bottles of water per family. The water distribution was supposed to start at 3:00 p.m., but the Coastal Bend Food Bank truck arrived fifteen minutes late and the distribution didn’t start for at least another half hour after.
The food bank is in talks with the City of Sinton to see if they’re going to host another event like the water distribution soon. The food bank says they’re prepared and will announce it on social media.
