A 134-year-old Catholic church was leveled by a fire in Westphalia, Texas.
The fire happened Monday morning at the Church of Visitation in central Texas. Photos released by the Diocese of Austin reveal the church engulfed in flames and smoke.
“I am saddened for the people of Westphalia who have suffered this tremendous loss,” Bishop Joe S. Vásquez sadi on their Facebook post, “I am grateful for all the firefighters and departments that responded to the fire. Please join me in keeping the people of this historic parish in your prayers today as they try to piece together this tragedy.”
The parish, currently led by Rev. Edwin Kagoo, was founded in 1883 and serves 244 families and 500 members, according to their website.
The source of the fire has not been released.
