Authorities say a 3-month-old baby suffocated Christmas Eve in Houston.
They say he somehow rolled face-down onto a plastic bag in the middle of the night.
A mother- dressed up for Christmas- comes homes from work to receive the tragic news her baby boy is dead.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says it appears this was an accident- the three month old baby died of suffocation. "We conduct a very thorough investigation any time anyone is found deceased, but especially a small child."
Investigators say the baby's mother was working overnight and the grandmother was in charge of caring for the infant who put the baby to sleep in the living room.
Sheriff Gonzalez said, "There is some hardwood floors there and the child would not move very much and she eventually went to sleep some time around midnight."
Then authorities say one of the three children inside the home took the baby and placed him on a mattress in a bedroom then somehow the baby rolled off and landed face-down in a plastic bag.
The sheriff says baby's autopsy will give them a better picture of what unfolded and how the baby lost his life. "We will try to be supporters then our investigators are the best in the business they will find out exactly what happened," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said investigators are still working to determine whether anyone should be charged in connection with the child's death.
