Texas Bill could ban purchasing sodas and other junk foods with food stamps

A bill proposed in Texas could change the rules for Supplemental Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients in regards to purchasing certain junk foods with SNAP benefits.

According to HB 4346, certain junk foods like energy drinks, sweetened beverages like sodas, candy, potato chips, corn chips, and packaged cookies will be on the list of restricted items.

Milk products, milk substitutes, certain carbonated beverages where the sweetener does not add calories, vegetable juice with no added sugar, and fruit juices with no added sugar.
