HOUSTON (AP) – Authorities say an off-duty deputy in Houston fatally shot a man in a parked vehicle while working security outside of a nightclub.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says deputies who were working off-duty patrolling the parking lot at the Club las Cumbres encountered two men in a pickup truck early Monday. Lt. Chris Sandoval says that the deputies shined their flashlights on the vehicle and saw a gun inside.
Sandoval says that the officers told the men to step out of the vehicle and not touch the gun. Sandoval says the passenger reached for the gun and one of the deputies opened fire, killing him.
Sandoval says the vehicle’s driver, who also had a gun, was taken into custody.
