Driver hit by red light runner, saving family, receives new car

Posted

A woman whose car was hit by a suspected drunk driver, preventing him from striking a family crossing the street, got a new car on Tuesday.

Carvana in Tempe presented a 2018 Chevy Cruze to Shannon Vivar and her 3-year-old son Drason. Inside the car were tickets to Disneyland.

"I'm getting emotional," Vivar said.

The gifts led to happy tears, weeks after the frightening crash. Miraculously everyone survived, but her car was a total loss.

"I've been having a hard time coping with everything and this makes me feel really good," Vivar said.

She says the new car will help her family a lot. She says it symbolizes a new beginning and a new outlook on life.

"I don't want to label myself a hero. But I just see that maybe that's just how things were supposed to be," Vivar said.
