CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The cold weather has many across the Coastal Bend headed inside… grocery stores to stock up on supplies before the worst of the cold hits. Saturday, packed parking lots were seen at several HEB locations, with crowds inside resembling a holiday rush. “It was insane.,” said shopper Ben Watson. “It was Thanksgiving-level crazy.” As shopper stocked up on snacks and other sundries, some stock levels were running low. “When we to top get chicken breast, there wasn’t as much as you were expecting,” said Watson. “Even little things, we couldn’t find coconut milk of all things.” Cell phone video sent to KRIS Communications by viewer A.L. Williams showed one HEB running out of things like meat, eggs, milk, and paper products. Most shoppers we spoke with Saturday said once their shopping trip was over, they'd be in for a couple days. “We're not going anywhere, just stay in and maybe watch movies,” said Ram Castro. “After what happened in Ft. Worth, I don’t think anybody wants to taken a chance on driving these next couple days,” said Anthony Chavirra, referencing the 100-plus vehicle pileup on I-35 earlier this week.

For those who haven’t yet done their shopping, Coastal Bend HEB locations will open at either 6 or 7 a.m. Sunday. Stores will close at 9 p.m. and reopen from 9 a.m. to 7p.m. Monday.
