CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority is in need of bus drivers. The RTA has 40 bus driver positions open.
A sign-on bonus is being offered. The amount ranges from $300 to $2,500. The RTA made an announcement about the bonuses a couple of weeks ago and it's proven to work. The next available driver-training class has already been filled. The RTA says good driving skills are important but also having good people skills is important.
"Driving a bus? I guess, yeah." "It's not bad. Yeah, we can do it." "If it comes down to it, everybody needs transportation to go somewhere," said several members of the Gonzalez family when asked if they would consider the job.
For anyone interested in the job but doesn't have a commercial drivers license, it's not a deal breaker. The RTA will help anyone hired get their license for free.
