CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A local homeless shelter got a huge gift from the Port of Corpus Christi on Friday.

The Port donated $15,000 and several stacks of canned goods to Mission 911. Mission 911 helps people who have fallen on hard times. Representatives with the nonprofit say they will be able to restock their food pantry and continue to offer assistance to those in need.

"It's helped us to strengthen our programs to help the people here in Corpus Christi. its helped us to maybe buy some more food so we can fill our pantry," said Founder and Executive Director, Tony Reyes.

The organization provides shelter, meals, food supplies, transportation, opportunities to learn and use a vocational skill and more. The shelter provides help to about 30,000 individuals per month.
