CORPUS CHRISTI — Aransas Pass Police officers are staying in the loop after testing a new tool that helps restrain suspects.

Police officers took part in a demonstration Monday for a device called BolaWrap®.

The BolaWrap® is a hand-held remote restraint device that discharges an 8 foot bola style Kevlar® tether at 640 feet per second to entangle a subject at a range of 10-25 feet. Imagine a similar affect when Wonder Woman uses her lasso or Spider-man wraps the bad guys in a web with a quick flick from his palms. The device offers officers a non-lethal option to deal with people who are non-compliant. And according to the manufacturers, the device is painless for suspects. The BolaWrap® would be used before resorting to a taser or pepper spray.

<DOUG RAMSEY - PRESIDENT OF EPIC SHOOTING TRAINING AND TACKLE DEFENSE CENTER: "t really fills this void where you've got a restraint device that you can activate from feet away - 10 to 25 feet away from the subject - and that way its safer for the subject, its safe for the officers, and hopefully you diffuse the situation with a less invasive encounter," said Doug Ramsey, President of Epic Shooting Training and Tackle Defense Center.

The Aransas Pass Police Department says more testing is needed.
