CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Several parents have raised their concerns on how they have seen many drivers speeding in a south side school zone.
Parents said drivers need to slow down before someone gets hurt, because they have seen cars and trucks zoom past each other in the school zone located on Lipes Boulevard.
“It's very important for the safety of our children, and I get scared, too," said Lupita Salinas. "Even with the parents -- I would think that as parents we would know even when the child isn't at a crosswalk. . . . When they get out of school, they cross when there's not a crosswalk.”
Parents who spoke to Action 10 News said when they park at Kaffie Middle School to pick up their children, too often, they see drivers going double the speed limit during school-zone hours.
Melissa Balboa said she even has a camera installed in her car and she fears that someone will get hurt.
“Literally these cars are coming and you can't see who's standing here to cross, and there will be elderly people -- There will be people on their bikes, and I've seen plenty of times were it could have been way worse."
Parents said drivers need to pay attention when they are behind the wheel especially where children are present.
