Port Aransas Police confirm that the man was found dead about ten feet from the shore near beach markers 9 and 10.
The swimmer has been identified by authorities as Nicholas Austin Mireles, a 20-year-old from San Antonio. Port Aransas Police have also confirmed that the 20-year-old's father, Richard Allen Mireles Jr., 47-years-old, died Wednesday at 5:03 p.m. at a Corpus Christi hospital.
Port Aransas Police Chief Scott Burroughs told KRIS 6 that around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, a father and son visiting from San Antonio went into the beach waters. The son was having trouble swimming so the father went out to bring him back to shore.
