Members of the NAACP are stressing the importance of getting your flu shot and learning about other different vaccines. The organization hosted a free flu shot clinic on Dec. 5, and now they are hosting free COVID-19 testing on Dec. 12.

Registered nurse with Christus Spohn , Janet Herbst, said having folks in the community know about how to take preventative measures before sickness enters your body can be extremely important and beneficial.

“The flu vaccine is so important as one more thing we can do to try and protect our population, so wear that mask, socially distance, wash your hands, and then make sure you get the flu vaccine,” said Geriatrician Dr. Nelly Garcia Blow.

The president of the local NAACP, Terry Mills, said giving back to the community is something that sits closely with the organization; which is why next week the group plans to continue their mission.

“We’re going to have free COVID testing here at the American Bank Center Parking lot from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it’s free to the public,” said Mills.

Organizers said having the partnership with medical staff and the NAACP coming together can help create a healthy community.
