Update: Monday - 9:41 a.m.

The 18-year-old man who was shot and killed Friday morning at Misty Winds near Ayers and Holly has been identified by the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office as Derrick Reyes.

Detectives do not believe this to be a random act of violence as Reyes and the 15-year-old shooter knew each other.

UPDATE: Friday - 2:30 p.m.

While police are still conducting their investigation of the homicide from early this morning, they have arrested a 15-year-old male and charged him with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has been booked into the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.

ORIGINAL STORY:
The Corpus Christi Police Department is investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead early Friday morning near the Misty Winds complex in the 5900 block of Ayers Street.

Police responded to the scene at 3:49 a.m. on March 14, 2025, where officers discovered the victim with an apparent gunshot wound. A 15-year-old juvenile male has been detained in connection with the apparent shooting.

Investigators from the Corpus Christi Police Department's Robbery/Homicide Unit are actively investigating the incident. Authorities have stated that they do not believe this was a random act of violence and have assured the community that there is no broader threat.
