Kolda Elementary School traffic daunting for parents

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The City of Corpus Christi has been doing major road renovations across the city. Parents at Kolda Elementary School got a firsthand look on Monday morning at how some of that road work is coming long. They were caught up in a very slow traffic jam as they were dropping off their children for the first day of school. The road construction on Rodd Field Road between Slough Road and Brooke Street was being blamed for the back up. A four-way stop was installed last week as part of the road improvement project. Parents say a lack of guidance on the new traffic pattern and very little parking led to the congestion.

"Any new additional areas to park or creating a standard for people to access the school you know from a larger parking area would definitely be helpful. Just creating structure. It seems like everyone is just trying to do what they can to get access to the school," said Anthony Avila, a parent who got a caught in the traffic mess.

Some parents had to wait for more than an hour to drop their kids off. Other parents just didn't want to wait so they opted to either park in a nearby gas station or go down the street where there weren't any crossing guards.
