Jury selection began in the Brandon Portillo case on Wednesday morning.
Portillo is accused of causing a fatal accident on in January 2020 that killed officer Alan McCollum and injured two other Corpus Christi police officers.
Portillo has pleaded not guilty in the case.
He also faces new drug charges after allegedly bringing methamphetamine into the Nueces County Jail. He also plead not guilty to the additional charges.
