CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Teachers in Ingleside are getting help before the school year starts. The Ingleside Police Department recently held a back-to-school supply drive but this one was for teachers.
Police Chief Tammy Burr says she's always heard that teachers buy their own supplies and rarely get reimbursed. And parents don't always have the means to continuously buy materials throughout the school year. So she initiated the drive in July to give the police department and the community a chance to help.
"Sometimes these supplies run out during the year or lost whatever the case may be so I think its important that we help our teachers out and get them extra supplies that could help get hem through most of the year," said Chief Burr.
The community answered the call. The Ingleside Police Department collected all types of supplies including highly requested hand sanitizer and tissues. And the municipal court used money from the Child Safety fund to buy and donate 100 backpacks.
The drive ends Friday but Chief Burr says if anyone would like to still donate, the police department will accept the items on behalf of the Ingleside school district.
