REFUGIO COUNTY — One man is dead after speeding on US 77 in Refugio County on Saturday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety says a one-vehicle fatality happened around 1:13 p.m. on US 77, about nine miles from Refugio.

The driver of an F-150 was traveling south on US 77 at a "high rate of speed", according to officials. Witnesses told officers the driver was trying to pass a vehicle in the left lane by driving into the center median, but he ended up veering across the roadway and overturned multiple times.

The driver, 45-year-old Domingo Orozco Olivares from Rosenberg, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
