CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — Firefighters have put out a fire at an abandoned commercial building in the 2000 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard near Cleveland Street.
Fire crews were dispatched to the structure fire around 4:42 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
"When fire units arrived on the scene, the building’s roof was engulfed in flames. Over a dozen CCFD units helped battle the blaze. It took just under two hours to extinguish the fire," said city officials.
According to crews, the fire caused heavy structural damage, including a collapsed roof. There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
"A building inspection has determined the structure to be a total loss. The structure has been ordered to be demolished in accordance with the city’s emergency demolition ordinance," added city officials.
The building owner has three business days to respond; however, if no response is received after three days, the City will begin demolition under established guidelines.
