CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Fire officials nationwide are warning people not to participate in the "Outlet Challenge."
The "challenge" went viral after teenagers videos of themselves doing it on the popular social media app, TikTok.
The outlet challenge involves a person partially plugging the end of a cell-phone charger in a wall outlet. Then they take a penny, sliding it down the wall until it hits the exposed prongs of the charger.
It may seem like innocent fun, but can come with serious consequences, and the Corpus Christi Fire Department said it's not worth you putting yourself, or others, in harm’s way.
Fire Chief Robert Rocha said it's extremely dangerous because it could cause an injury such as electrocution, or it could even cause a fire.
“If you want to make a funny video don’t risk yourself, and risk a life of those around you, in order to make an impact on social media,” Rocha said.
There have been no incidents here at home, but there have been two incidents reported in Massachusetts.
Rocha also said electricity is something that should not be played around with.
