CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Many folks are doing their best to bounce back from the recent big freeze that took over our community.
This includes the Cimarron Estates senior living center. Our KRIS 6 News team first told you how the building lost power along with damaged pipes leaving residents without water.
Earlier our cameras caught many residents with their loved ones with bags in their hands leaving the property. Residents say they were told to leave so that way crews can repair water pipes inside the building.
Residents say they have been without water for days. They have resorted to filling up jugs with water from the water hose outside the building.
As many began to leave, others say they do not know what steps to take because they have nowhere to go.
“I don’t have any family that I can go to, a lot of us don’t have any family. A lot of people are disabled, a lot of them have oxygen, wheelchairs, you name it, and many have no place to go,” said one resident.
Corporate office workers in association with the Cimarron Estates say this is not a mandatory evacuation.
Office managers say they are providing residents with housing and have been in touch with the Salvation Army, American Red Cross and FEMA.
No word just yet on how long repairs could take and how long temporary housing will be available for residents.
