A woman was killed last night after walking in front of an oncoming truck in Aransas Pass.

The 66-year old driver told police he was traveling southbound in the inside lane of the 600 block of South Commerical Street just after 8 p.m. Thursday when he noticed a woman in dark clothing just outside of the crosswalk.

He tried to avoid hitting her but struck the 47-year old pedestrian. The driver went to her aid but she died of her injuries.

Police have decided not to reveal her identity at this time.

Detective Stacey Allen, with the Aransas Pass Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, said she was in Aransas Pass but not originally from the area.

As for the driver, Allen said he was very cooperative.

The driver has submitted to a Drug Recognition Expert examination. The driver also provided his cell phone to investigators. The investigators said the phone was on do-not-disturb and there were missed calls noticed on the phone. Last, the motorist submitted to a voluntary blood draw, those results are pending.

"We checked him in every way we could. He was very cooperative, took all the tests we asked for," Allen said, "He wanted to help in any way he could."

Meanwhile, the driver will not face any charges at this time because Allen said the driver had a green light. Therefore, he had the right of way.
