CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The dental programs at Del Mar College are celebrating their 50th Anniversary. The dental hygiene and dental assisting programs are known for their rigorous training.
More than 230 students apply each year. Only 24 spots are available in each program. Students learn how to perform x-rays and prepare tools needed by dentists to work on a patient.
"There's education based learning and then hands on learning, that's incredible because I feel I will have the skills to do well in the field," said dental assisting student Calena Joylewson.
Students from all over the nation, and even Canada and Africa, have come to Corpus Christi for both of these programs. In the 50 years combined more than 1,500 students have graduated from the program.
