CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coastal Bend Food Bank is starting the 2020 new year with a call to action.

Workers with the Coastal Bend Food Bank make great strides to feed area families and in reaching their goals, they need the community to step in.

Staff with the food bank says we live in a very giving community and with each donation, that helps families come together to the dinner table.

In 2019, the food bank distributed 10.2 million pounds of food across 11 counties.

Operations manager James Burnett says that equates to 8.6 million meals.

For 2020, the food bank has set a goal to distribute 11.5 million pounds with 9 million meals for area families.

To help reach that goal, staff say the community must donate.

“Every dollar will help us supply 3 meals to a person in need so yeah anything large or small is always beneficial and when we can use the community volunteers if nothing else we always welcome them we couldn't get this job done if it wasn't for our volunteers,” says Burnett.

Staff says the reason why the food bank was able to distribute so many pounds of food is because of the years of growth, donations, and the support.
