CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The decision has been made to postpone or cancel events this weekend as temperatures drop and approach freezing. The City of Corpus Christi has decided to postpone two events scheduled for Saturday: Safe Fun Fit at the Bayfront and Valentine Trunk or Treat at Salinas Park.

Like these events, changes were made to the agenda of a vacationing couple. While visiting Corpus Christi they were hoping to spend some time on the beach, but will now stay hunkered down in their hotel, for the weekend.

"We escaped Oklahoma City because of the cold, thinking we’d just come down here to get away from it, but surprise it chased us down," Wayne Peeler said.

The frigid air won't stop everyone. Deanna Davenport is also visiting Corpus Christi from Kerrville, TX.

"We just plan on viewing Corpus, going around, going to the beach for a little bit, of course not in the water," Davenport said.

The people at Nueces Brewing Company have the same mindset as Davenport. The brewery will play host to at least one event that was scheduled this weekend and will still go on. The second chili cook-off is slated to begin at noon on Saturday.

"It couldn’t be better planned or accidentally planned," Cale Moore said, co-owner of the brewery.

The cook-off is still looking for participants. Moore says teams of up to four should bring their best chili in, already made, with a way to keep it warm. Moore encourages people to dress up in costumes as that will be one of the many ways to win prizes this weekend.

When asked if he thought about postponing because of weather, Moore said, "Absolutely not. It's perfect for this."
