The Corpus Christi Police Department has successfully ended a standoff that occurred in the metro Corpus Christi area.
On Jan. 24, 2025, CCPD officers responded to a call for shots heard on the 1100 block of Florida Dr. at 2:25 p.m., and set up a perimeter upon arrival.
“When someone is shooting that many times and we had that many calls for service, especially today at 3:30 p.m. on this street close to Del Mar College it’s going to be a different response. It’s going to be a specialized unit," CCPD Lieutenant Paul Janko explained.
According to CCPD, officers were eventually able to convince the two occupants from inside the home to come out and took one of them into custody with no reported injuries.
“We watched this house yesterday with no activity and today the activity increased for whatever reason, we’re still investigating that," Lt. Janko said. "Then today we made contact with him. He came outside and complied with commands. We took him into custody.”
Neighbors are feeling relieved.
“Another pow, pow, pow. I said do you hear that. I wanted to go look but my daughter said to stay away from the window," Maria Lopez said.
Lopez lives across the street, she said this has been going on for months in her neighborhood.
”I always tell my neighbors, it’s going to be us one day. We’re gonna come out one day and a bullet is going to hit us all of sudden and we’re not gonna know where it came from. That guy did it very often," Lopez said.
Janko confirms a male Hispanic in his 30s was taken into custody with no reported injuries. Lopez watched as police took him away.
“If he gets bonded we have watch out because he’s coming home with anger because he knows someone called it in," Lopez said.
CCPD tells us the man now faces multiple charges including deadly conduct and shooting a gun outside.
