Several Corpus Christi Independent School District teachers and staff members have resigned this academic year and several more have retired, according to a public information request received by KRIS Communications.

According to the district, 39 teachers and staff members have resigned since the start of the year on Aug. 13.

An additional 13 teachers have retired since that date.

The total number of teachers employed by CCISD at the close of the 2019-2020 school district was 2,244. And the number of teachers the district employed at the start of the 2020-2021 school year was 2,230.

At least 10 teachers resigned the first week of September, just as the district was welcoming the first of its students back for in-person learning.

Several of those teachers were at Windsor Park Elementary School.

While school principal Kimberly Bissell said she couldn't comment on specific reasons the four staff members resigned, she did confirm to KRIS 6 News it was over COVID-19 concerns.

Phase two starts Monday for the next batch of students returning to on-campus learning.
