ROBSTOWN, Tx — It was a packed courtroom Wednesday morning after nearly 15 residents signed up for public comment.

These residents sharing concerns about the potential green ammonia plant coming to the Robstown and Calallen area.

"It literally is in someones backyard," concerned citizen Marie Lucio said. "They have neighbors, houses, people who have lived there probably for years."

Karen White with Avina Clean Hydrogen responded to those concerns and told KRIS 6 News the company intends to offer property buyouts for those living closest to the proposed facility.

"Our perspective would be in a position to make those folks whole, make them an offer to have an option for their families to not be on the direct site location," White said.

The company said it is limited in addressing concerns from people who have decided its a bad location, but that it hopes to have constructive conversations with residents and community leaders.

"I am hopeful that out plant will be a positive addition to the community and can find ways to find that moderate ground," White said.

Avina chose the proposed location at County Road 1889 and FM 46 after deciding two other locations were not feasible, including sites near the Corpus Christi International Airport and Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds.

Wednesday's presentation to the commissioner's court was the third public presentation the week, and the company said the plant will foster growth in investment, jobs, and education.

As KRIS 6 News has reported, the company intends to ask the Robstown Independent School District for a tax abatement. Avina representatives said they will also ask the county for a tax abatement.

"The tax abatement is really critical when you are talking about a $2.2 billion capital investment, to the folks that are going to make those investments," White said.

Avina Clean Hydrogen said that feedback from the community is vital and they welcome the community to speak out about their concerns.
