CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With the future of Bob Hall Pier in doubt because of Hurricane Hanna damage, clean-up from that storm has uncovered a piece of the pier's history.

"Yeah, it's pretty interesting,” said Nueces County Coastal Parks director Scott Cross. “My guys drug it up on the beach. They just thought it was some piece of debris. And I got to looking at it, and they were about to chop it up with a chainsaw. And I said, 'No no no no don't do it.’"

What they found was a piece of the original Bob Hall Pier dating to 1962.

Hurricane Allen destroyed it in 1980.

That's when this 12-foot long beam got trapped under the sand and mud on the sea floor.

It sat there for 40 years until Hanna stirred it up.

Nueces County Coastal Parks leaders are now trying to decide what to do with it, as they also decide whether the current Bob Hall Pier just needs repairs or needs to be rebuilt entirely.
