Captain was immediately taken in for x-rays, which showed the hook had been completely swallowed and was lodged in the animal’s esophagus.

After determining that surgery was needed, a small incision was made and the hook was removed.

Texas Sealife Center says that after several weeks of rehab, the incision has healed and Captain has been cleared for release.

The center expects to release Captain at 10 a.m. June 16 at Windward Beach,  near 14926 Windward Drive.
