‘Believe In Yourself’ now wants to help boys and young men. And they’re going one step further by giving these kids the resources they need to accomplish some of their biggest dreams.
In a fairytale world, a fairy godmother might wave a wand to conjure up the dress of your dreams.
In the real world, entrepreneur Sam Sisakhti is attempting to do just that for young girls around the country.
“I didn’t know I was going to get a dress,” said one young recipient.
Two years ago, Sisakhti started ‘Believe in Yourself’. When it first began the charity donated brand new dresses that underprivileged girls could wear to school functions.
“Prom, homecoming, it could be a valentine’s Day dance,” said Sisakhti.
“It was special receiving the dress and meeting people my age,” said another recipient.
And if that wasn’t a fairytale enough, now ‘Believe in Yourself” is going in a new direction; now funding young people’s dreams.
“Let’s say their dream is to be a professional musician and their dream would be to make the school band or a professional soccer player their dream would be to score 10 goals this season and then if they actually achieve it we’ll provide them with 2 more dresses in the school year and then we bring in mentors,” said Sisakhti.
‘Believe in Yourself’ has young people set a goal that correlates with whatever their dream is and then provides them the resources and mentorships to succeed.
“I think it’s so important to humanize some of these goals and these professions for these kids so that they don’t seem like they’re outlandish kind of goals and they seem realistic,” said Sisakhti.
The organization is based in Boston but is planning to expand into 5 cities in Texas including Corpus Christi.
