Local auto dealer Ed Hicks passed away this morning.  The businessman was 84 years old.

Hicks passed away early Thursday in Houston. A spokesperson for the family says he died of heart complications at a hospital.

Hicks’ history in Corpus Christi automobiles began when he started a new-car dealership with Nissan in 1973. The label then was known as Datsun.  His family continues to manage dealerships in the area.

Mr. Hicks and his wife, Gloria are recognized in the local community for being philanthropists.  Mr. Hicks served on multiple boards throughout his life.  Today, the Corpus Christi Police Foundation posted their sympathies to the family and all those who know him.

Mr. Hicks was one of the founding members of the Corpus Christi Police Foundation, and currently served as Chairman Emeritus. It was his passion for safety in our community that drove Mr. Hicks to support the men and women of the Corpus Christi Police Department and to help establish the Corpus Christi Police Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
