A Corpus Christi mother who tried selling her own children is heading to prison.

This morning, Esmeralda Garza appeared in the 105th District Court. She agreed to take a plea deal.

Judge Jack Pulcher asked Esmeralda Garza if she understood the charges filed against her.

Garza pleaded guilty to three counts of sale of a child, one count of money laundering and one count of conspiracy to sell a child.

The prosecutor in the case recommended Garza receive six years in prison.

Judge Jack Pulcher sentenced Garza to six years in prison for each count of sale of a child. He also sentenced her to two years for money laundering and gave her an additional two years for the charge of conspiracy to sell a child.

Pulcher ruled that the sentences will be served concurrently, meaning they will be served at the same time. In the end, she’ll serve six years in prison.

DPS arrested Garza in June 2018 after she told investigators she and her boyfriend owed drug money. To repay that debt, she sold her 7-year-old son for $2,500.

Garza also tried selling two of her toddler daughters.
