Coastal Bend events to look out for this Saturday

Spring Break is in the air! There are plenty of fun things to do this weekend. Here is a breakdown of some of Saturday’s events to consider making an appearance at.

Cups Commemorating Corpus Christi Queen of Cumbia

The heavily anticipated limited edition Selena Commemorative Cups will be available at 10 AM at Stripes®. Prepare for heavy lines of eager fans for the Selena Rose Cup that is said to capture the beauty of Selena against her signature white roses. The limited edition cup comes with a bright red lid to hold hot or cold beverages. There is a limit of two per person until they run out, so you should probably bring your whole family.  Check out theofficial countdown here.

TheFulton Volunteer Fire Department puts on one of the best Oysterfests in the world. This unique festival is going on at the waterfront in Fulton, Texas and showcases the very best oysters that seafood sources along the Texas Gulf Coast have to offer. Oysterfest attendees can look forward to carnival rides, games, food, an oyster eating contest, live music,unique vendor booths, and fun for the whole family. It started on Thursday and will last until Sunday and staffed entirely by fun-loving volunteers. Don’t miss out on a chance to support a good cause. With a record number of 36,000 participants in 2011, Oysterfest is a major funding provider for equipment, training, & maintenance for the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department.

Fishing For Donors Blood Drive

If you are looking to save a life this weekend, the Fishing for Donors Blood Drive hosted by The Coastal Bend Blood Center is happening this Saturday from 9am-5pm. The5th annual event will be held outside of Cavender’s Boot City and Donors will receive a t-shirt, coupons to Cavender’s and Freebird’s, and will be entered for a chance to win a Bay Guided fishing trip. You can also enjoy breakfast tacos provided by Bill Miller’s or subs provided by Subway.

Botanical Gardens Spring Break

Spring Break at the South Texas Botanical Gardens starts this Saturday at 10:30 AM. A fun and educational environment will be provided by Animal Ambassadors and Trainers. Students of all ages can enjoy fauna, flowers, Tortoise Tales, Reptile Close-Ups, Parrots Talk, and the wonders of nature all in one beautiful place.This event will last all of Spring Break.

Vernon’s Crawfish Pachanga

Vernon’s Crawfish Pachanga is back, bigger, and better than ever. Besides being expanded to include the parking lot across the street from Vernon’s Bar, the festival also boasts of more bugs and more fun. Crawfish are of course the staple of the event, but live music and family-friendly activities will make this pachanga a memorable seafood experience. Crawfish plates will start at $13 a pound or $30 all you can eat; and if that isn’t your jam, Vernon’s Cafe will also have BBQ plates, turkey legs, and burgers. The festival starts at 2 PM today at 1030 Third Street.

546 feet doesn’t seem like too far to run. What about while holding a beer? All 200 registered slots for the 1/2K By the Bay Beer Run are now filled with beer drinkers. If you want to check out the 3rd annual Corpus Christi Brewery Festival and witness a hilarious beer race, come down to the bayfront this Saturday at 2:15 PM. Race participants will enjoy a spot in the race, a souvenir cup (also your running cup), 1 running beer & 1 reward beer, a souvenir bottle opener participation medal, and early admission to the CC Brewery Festival. There will be a wide selection of local craft beers to try, food trucks, live music, kids projects, and art projects & exhibits. The CC Brewery Festival gates open at 3:00 PM with free admission, but you can get a festival general package for $20 that includes a commemorative glass and 7 beer tickets.

Loca for Local

In honor of National Women’s Day, 26 local female vendors will be a huge part of Small Business Saturday at BUS downtown. This one-day event will have loads of shopping from local vendors, food trucks, and music provided by local disc jockeyDJ Weasel. They will be accepting donations of Tampons and pads forPeriod Corpus Christi a local organization committed to celebrating periods and providing products to those in need.
