1-year-old girl dies from injuries sustained in Staples, Baldwin crash

A 1-year-old child that was involved in the accident at Baldwin Blvd. and Staples St. has died, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.

The girl died yesterday, according to Senior Officer Travis Pace. A 3-year-old boy is still in the hospital.

The accident happened at the intersection of Baldwin Boulevard and Staples Street just before 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

The driver of a truck was turning left from Staples onto Baldwin, and failed to yield to a car, according to officers with the CCPD. The truck and car collided.

26-year-old Domingo Rivera was a passenger in the car and was killed. CCPD says the driver of the car, a 28-year-old woman, was driving while intoxicated. The children were in the backseat of the car and were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The 1-year-old girl died on Thursday.

The driver of the truck was cited and released to the hospital for a follow-up.

The woman is facing charges of driving while intoxicated with children, a state jail felony. She was seriously injured in the accident and is in the hospital.
