The founder of a local veterans organization says more and more veterans are turning to CBD oil to treat their Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms.

“You’re always clear and level-headed,” Veterans Relief Group founder Art Lopez said. “I really love this stuff.”

Technically, both CBD Oil and marijuana come from the same plant, Cannabis sativa, but the plant CBD is made out of, hemp, is cultivated differently than the marijuana plant. The result is no Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, in CBD oil, so it doesn’t get you high. Users, like Lopez, say CBD does relieve pain and anxiety.

“I think a lot of people will benefit from it,” he said.

Joint Venture on South Padre Island Drive in Corpus Christi is one of several Coastal Bend businesses that sells CBD oil products. The owner of the combination-smoke and sandwich shop says lots veterans make up a good portion of his customers.

“They say it works wonders for them,” Joint Venture owner Ramsey Cadena said. “It does help their anxiety level. They’re able to sleep better at night.”

The discovery of CBD oil’s popularity among local veterans who have PTSD echoes an article on the website for the American Military News publication that says it’s also a trend nationwide. That’s no surprise to Lopez.

“it doesn’t get you high. It just gets you some relief from your pain,” he said. “I recommend it to other veterans.”
