Wings Rescue Center in Rockport is in need of fish donations.

The nonprofit takes in all kinds of injured birds and rehabilitates them back to health.

Since Hurricane Harvey, they have rescued more than 500 birds.

Founder Kay Adams says this time of year they see a lot of injured brown pelicans. They currently have six with injuries resulting from fishing lines and hooks or being fed hard-head catfish.

“What it does is, it rips down their pouch and usually it sticks in their throats and they will starve to death if we don’t find them in time,” says founder Kay Adams.

Adams says it takes them about two and a half months to heal properly. Part of the healing process lies in gaining weight.

Every day each pelican is fed 600 to 800 grams of fish.

The only problem is the nonprofit is running low on fish donations.

“We were out of fish yesterday and we were desperate, we had to go down to bait stand which really charged us a lot,” says Adams.

So they are asking the community to donate any extra mullet or shad fish they may have.
