The Corpus Christi Housing Authority is working on filling the gap for affordable housing.

Starting January they will be adding new homes for rental every month.

Housing Authority CEO Gary Allsup says they have been working on this project for three years.

The goal is to not only create housing opportunities but to enhance aging neighborhoods.

“They be nice new rental homes in the neighborhood, makes it easier for developers to come in,” says Allsup.

The three bedroom, two bath factory homes will range from 1,200 to 1,300 square feet.

Four homes will be available in January.

Allsup says they plan on adding four homes each month, once the program gets rolling the number will increase to eight homes a month.

This will add anywhere from 150 to 180 affordable rental homes in the next few years.

Allsup says this program is separate from others the CCHA offers. It is not based on income, rather a market-based system.

Anyone can apply.

“We can rent this to a bank president, we can rent this to somebody on section 8 housing,” says Allsup.

If you are interested in visiting one of the homes, the model home is located on the corner of Musset and 19th Street.
